Sculptor Dr. John P. Jewell has been a principal, special services director and a college instructor. He retired as a principal from Saltar's Point Elementary School in the Steilcoom Historical School District. After 30 years in the education field he returned to the University of Puget Sound and studied sculpture and painting. John's work, ranging in size from two inches to monumental, is recognized by the overall design. He sees his sculptures as a way to communicate with a viewer and, hopefully, connect with a viewer. Children, historical figures and figures representing relationships are the central theme of his sculptures. He sees the form of the sculpture as a way to capture spirit. His work can be viewed by clicking HERE.
The sculptures are located in museums, public places and in private holdings.
"I am deeply touched that my sculptures can convey to the public the purpose of a particular organization, business or a moment in history. It is another way that I know that my bronze sculptures have ongoing significance. Sculpting is an extension of who I am: my experiences, my personality, and my faith."
